Jim Pinnock – An English Author and Actor living in Queensland Australia;

How sad it is that so many people in the world cannot read.

It is even more distressing to think how many people can read but do not.

From a very early age I was eager to read. I would happily spend hours lost in stories that were the product of someone’s imagination. It took very little encouragement for me to start writing and telling my own stories

My first two books could rightly be classified as historical novels, set as they are in a dark period of time more than one hundred years ago. Europe was the centre of the atrocious First World War. This was a period that shames the political and military leaders of the day who took or rather, sent a whole generation of their people into the slaughter. Recent commemorations have done much to teach and remind current generations about the folly of the actions and the sacrifices made by and on all sides.

The stories that I tell are completely non-partisan, although perhaps understandably viewed from a British perspective. The stories are non judgmental and the message is not intended to be a polemic against war. The objective is to provide exciting and entertaining tales that also shed some light on the happenings of the time.

Although the characters are entirely the product of my imagination they are intended to portray the men and women with the varying thoughts, feelings and motivations of the time. I hope that some will evoke feelings of affection in the reader, whilst other characters are intended to arouse the opposite. I have also taken the liberty of including some well-known individuals of the time. Where the names of actual historical figures are used, they are portrayed in circumstances in which history indicates they may well have found themselves.

And so . . . to the theatre – Curtain up!

“Is this a dagger which I see before me the handle toward my hand?”

In this line from his soliloquy, Macbeth is haunted by an image of the dagger that he has used to kill King Duncan.

If I had not already been captivated by the story of the murderous thane of Glamis, Macbeth, then this line alone would have sold me on Shakespeare’s tale of villainy and political intrigue.

Thus motivated I began to create my characters and put words into their mouths. Then I set them on a stage and directed their actions. There is an enormous passion in the U.K. for amateur dramatics and nearly every town and city can boast at least one theatrical venue and most of these are supported by committed drama groups and societies.

Giant and powerful works like those of Shakespeare I left for those with a different and appropriate set of skills.

Instead I chose to write one-act plays of a more contemporary nature.

One Act Plays: –

The Exit Poll

Custard and Disinfectant

The Wrong Ladder

A Second Chance

Where’s Nigel?

The Clever Clogs Gang

The Melting Sands

The Frinton Fryer

The Pagan Priests

Something for the Weekend

The Politics of Bendy

Losing Purpose
